About the Collaboration This kit is produced by the furniture maker Iwayado, who craft the lacquered wooden base of the pin cushion. It is a collaboration between Iwayado and the Otsuchi Sashiko Restoration NPO, established by the women of Iwate Prefecture affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. The NPO aims to revitalise the community and empower women through Sashiko. This kit combines two traditional crafts that represent Iwate—Sashiko and lacquered wooden furniture. By using their respective expertise, they seek to help rebuild the quake-affected area and showcase their culture and the resilience of the people to the world.
