Second Handbook in the InitiaLit–1 program, containing Lessons 19-38 for daily whole-class instruction. These lessons begin to teach children to read two-syllable closed syllable words (VC/CV, e.g., hotdog) and introduce the digraphs: ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, ow. Tricky word instruction and lessons dedicated to understanding some grammatical concepts (compound word, noun, verb) are integrated into the phonics lessons.
